Programs Outreach and Education We educate New Yorkers of all ages about composting through workshops, site tours, and classes, information tables, and speaking opportunities.

Of these sites, 16 have attained Demonstration Site status, exhibiting exemplary compost operations and community engagement. In the Bronx, the program is offered every spring and consists of eight Thursday evening classes, two Saturday field trips, and 30 hours of Bronx-based volunteer service in compost education and promotion.

As public interest in composting grew, the NYC Compost Project expanded its outreach to connect with New Yorkers of all ages interested in home and community composting. Technical assistance NYC is home to hundreds of community compost sites.

We work with 55 actively-managed Community Compost Sites in the Bronx, and we consult with dozens of additional community gardens and schools to create and improve compost systems at their sites.

Demo Sites have priority access to NYC Compost Project resources and all sites are encouraged to strive toward this level of achievement.

Drop-off sites are located at greenmarkets, subway stations, public libraries, and other convenient locations. We offer technical assistance in creating compost action plans, organizing volunteer workdays, troubleshooting physical and social issues, and more.

Education We host information tables, give public presentations, and teach workshops at local events in the Bronx. We provide technical guidance to these sites by helping construct compost systems, manage volunteers, prevent and resolve neighborhood conflicts, source materials, and more.

Get your hands dirty and meet someone new at one of the beautiful gardens in the Bronx. We are also happy to collaborate with student clubs, service learning programs, and other volunteer groups to arrange group-specific workdays at our sites.
